Finally, from nacchan here at IchiRuki FC at BA, the final numbers on Hellverse are in. According to zack_mori (twitter name for Bleach anime soundman) today is the last day for the movie to play in the theatres). Hellverse didn't make as much money in its closing sums as Memories of Nobody, Diamond Dust Rebellion, or Fade to Black.

The best movie of the bunch rakes in the least money? Annie remembers that I predicted that it wouldn't do as well as FTB because of repeat business. I'm sad for Kubo-sensei to be right. After reading summaries of Hellverse I do believe it to be a well-made movie with lots of devotion to the authenticity of the characters, great fights and a little something for everyone... I don't believe that the absence of the Shinigami OR the presence of Orihime were that much a deciding factor in the movie's relative failure compared to DDR and FTB. I do believe that the repeat success of DDR and FTB had to do with the fervor of their respective fandoms (Hitsugaya and IchiRuki).

Happy New Year's everyone. It's the year of the Bunny Rabbit so maybe we'll get a nice Rukia spread from Sensei? I'm waiting for neighborhood firecrackers to scare the cats and browsing interesting stuffs over at the Bleach Movie 4 thread at BA--a few posts have been made recently about the dropping revenues of Hellverse and I've been concerned because I don't want a return to "Ichigo and the Shinigami" standards of old. so the 4th movie has a good start but after 4th week,it hasn't even reach ￥0.5 billion.. while DDR has over 0.7 billion and FTB has 0.562 billion during the 4th week =.=, i'm starting to think that it won't reach 1 billion yen or surpass the DDR/FTB movie...which is sad...since this movie was supposed to be the best among the previous movie

Also, a BA member named ciaxsjes saw the movie in Japan and is posting a very detailed play by play summary here. Ciaxsjes says the movie was excellent, better than the other three, and I want to see it even more than ever now after reading the first installment of summary. My guess is that DDR and FTB got more repeat business than this movie because of the fervor of their specific fandoms (Hitsugaya, IchiRuki) and not that this movie is doing worse because it's in any way a lesser movie or because the Shinigami aren't featured or because the nakama are (or ORIHIME is). I do hope that producers of future movies take into consideration the success of FTB and the Kubo factor in the promotion of Hellverse--people want Kubo's involvement in these movies; they want a feeling close to the original manga. The appeal of this movie for me was its closeness to canon (Ichigo's transformation) as well as the nakama, but I suspect its the former factor that matters to most people.

More thingies for you all. First, Annie IMed me early this morning with scans of the new butler maid gum cards and said "don't ask me for HQs--I don't have them yet!" LOL. I was happy because we weren't expecting these to be released until the 30th. Just look at Ishida here pouring the tea like Sebastian! Renji is carrying a tray (are there seaweed ambassador cookies under the lid? Taiyaki?) and we have maid!Rukia at last.

I'd been waiting patiently for Ishida fans to blog and review Hellverse since from first reports most  reviews I'd been hearing had been going on about shipping stuffs and naked!Rukia. XD  pony_rocks posted links in the Ishida FC this morning to blogs from Ishida fans. She's a professional translator so I didn't think to bother her, but mezzo was kind enough to translate! Ishida gushing from blog under cut. Movie spoilers of course (but yeah movie spoilers are all over this community--I'm not really hiding them well).

LOL, Ishida, also Nii-sama. I swear, Nii-sama's scene with Ichigo may be one of the scenes I'm most looking forward to in the movie. Apparently many reviewers have said that it's powerful. There's a good summary in English at animesuki from Langus who went to see the movie HERE (I like that place, even though it often posts stuffs from here w/o credit to Mezz et al) and with all due respect to Langus, I don't think he got Bya's character right in that scene.

I drew stuffs!   A holiday Orihime (I like timeskip!Orihime in the manga but her hairpins are there in this pic because Orihime without her hairpins makes me nervous. She's happier with them I think. I want them back in her hair again! ) and an shoujo IchiRuki (for Annie and the current IR FC Christmas Wedding challenge).

More Mezzo translations! We had Oririn comment about Rukia a couple entries ago and this time mezzo_marinaio translated Yuki's words about Orihime's role in the movie. Frankly, I was happy with what I'd heard about Orihime's role but Yuki's words made me wince a little, but then again, I've never really liked her take on Orihime. At least one person on 2ch said Yuki made Orihime look bad.

I got a real kick out of this one. The new scenes look cool. Ichigo walking slowly in the battle in torn clothes looks cool. The animation looks cool. The actual hell gates being the doors to the movie theatre look awesome and the emotional fangirls--lol. I've been all excited since Mezz translated some of the latest spoilers from the early showings of the movie and the discussions of the movie at the IR FC at BA have been lively. Can't wait for the official release and more the wider audience to see and give details. The movie sounds REALLY exciting plot wise.



Also, in this week's anime (the one that ties into the movie), the omake is super cute and relevant to my interests. Artist!Rukia strikes again. XD

We have new scenes from the Bleach movie Hellverse in this week's anime OP and ED. Wow, the fighting animation looks out of this world from the new sequences we have. I just wow--flipped OUT all over the place from the Ulqui and Ichigo fight. A little disappointed in Hell--it looks gray and mostly smoke, sort of banal but I guess that apropos and easier to landscape in a film.

帰宅しましたー！映画、凄かった！一言で言うと、全編アクション！！です。

“I’ve retuuuurned! The movie was amazing! To be brief, it was aaaaaaal action!”

全編アクションって言っても、大抵のアクション映画ってアクション部分て半分くらいだったりするけど、今回の映画はまじでアクションじゃないシー ンが10分とか15分くらいしかありません。しかもアクションのクオリティが高い高い。アニメスタッフさんの苦労は尋常じゃなかったと思います。

“Though action movies are generally labelled like that, the action parts usually span about half of the movie… in this movie, though, the scenes that couldn’t be labelled ‘action’ must have been about 10-15 minutes at the most. Furthermore, the action quality was high, high. I think that the anime staff must have had some unusual trouble for this one.”

映画の冒頭で原作の一護VSウルキオラのバトルを再構成したバトルシーンが数分間だけ描かれるんですが、俺はその数分だけで完全に持ってかれました。あそこは一護とウルキオラのどっちかに少しでも興味がある人は絶対に観た方がいいです。

“At the beginning of the movie, there is a battle scene between Ichigo and Ulquiorra – which is basically a remake of their canon battle; it’s just a few minutes long, but I think those few minutes reached a level of perfection. The people who have even just a little interest in either Ichigo or Ulquiorra should definitely watch it.”

“And then, what particularly impressed me this time was that they drew Ichigo – who is very hard to draw – very well, and made him cool-looking for the entire time. I was really happy about that. All the more because this time, Ichigo was set firmly at the centre of the story.”

ストーリー的には、これまでのBLEACHの映画って、BLEACHらしさはあるけど正直ジャンプっぽさは薄かったと思うんです。それが今回は BLEACH らしさをしっかり持ちつつも、いかにもジャンプ映画らしいストーリーと演出で、子供の頃にジャンプ映画を観た時のような気持ちになれました。

“Story-wise, I think that the Bleach movies up until now gave off a Bleach-like feeling, but their Jump-like essence was very sparse. This time, however – while the movie is firmly grounded in the spirit of Bleach – the story produced really gives off a feeling of being a typical Jump movie… so I was able to return to the emotions I felt when I saw Jump movies in my childhood.”


On another note, the merchandising for this movie is out of this world. I've found myself lusting for cork coasters and buttons and mousepads like never before, but ohhh I really really REALLY WANT THIS.
