Happy New Year's everyone. It's the year of the Bunny Rabbit so maybe we'll get a nice Rukia spread from Sensei? I'm waiting for neighborhood firecrackers to scare the cats and browsing interesting stuffs over at the Bleach Movie 4 thread at BA--a few posts have been made recently about the dropping revenues of Hellverse and I've been concerned because I don't want a return to "Ichigo and the Shinigami" standards of old. The focus on the nakama in this movie is what got my interest. Today czeliate posted from 2ch ( here):

第一弾: MON
第二弾: DDR
第三弾: FTB
第四弾: HELL ARC
1週目: 1st week
2週目: 2nd week
3週目: 3rd week
4週目: 4th week
5週目: 5th week
6週目: 6th week
so the 4th movie has a good start but after 4th week,it hasn't even reach ¥0.5 billion.. while DDR has over 0.7 billion and FTB has 0.562 billion during the 4th week =.=, i'm starting to think that it won't reach 1 billion yen or surpass the DDR/FTB movie...which is sad...since this movie was supposed to be the best among the previous movie
Also, a BA member named ciaxsjes saw the movie in Japan and is posting a very detailed play by play summary here. Ciaxsjes says the movie was excellent, better than the other three, and I want to see it even more than ever now after reading the first installment of summary. My guess is that DDR and FTB got more repeat business than this movie because of the fervor of their specific fandoms (Hitsugaya, IchiRuki) and not that this movie is doing worse because it's in any way a lesser movie or because the Shinigami aren't featured or because the nakama are (or ORIHIME is). I do hope that producers of future movies take into consideration the success of FTB and the Kubo factor in the promotion of Hellverse--people want Kubo's involvement in these movies; they want a feeling close to the original manga. The appeal of this movie for me was its closeness to canon (Ichigo's transformation) as well as the nakama, but I suspect its the former factor that matters to most people.

Date: 2011-01-01 05:05 am (UTC)Also, I'm trying REALLY hard not to spoil the movie for myself, but from what I've heard and the 1:40 minute trailer I've watched 5 times, it looks really good. Not just because we finally get more on Hell, but also because it sticks to the shounen format-The good guys are always a few steps away from losing and dying horrible deaths, the bad guys are practically unstoppable, and there's actual, awesomely drawn fighting (and apparently, even a PLOT TWIST! Gasp! .
Although it sounds clichéd, it would probably be the first of the four (again, I'm assuming here with DDR) to not drag. I watched FtB for the story, not the fighting. I'm planning on watching Hellverse for both.
And apparently, where FtB was a huge Ichi--->Ruki movie, this is supposed to be the other way around, with a lot of Ruki--->Ichi. I don't see why people would go to see FtB for the IchiRuki and not this one for practically the same thing. Then again, I'm not the Japanese fanbase.

Date: 2011-01-01 04:42 pm (UTC)Ichigo is much more focused and emotionally dependant on Rukia, in my opinion, than the other way round.
Perhaps it's because the fans (mainly girls) identify with Rukia, so they want to see Ichi --> Rukia

Date: 2011-01-01 12:59 pm (UTC)The sooner they get the hint that the core principles/characters of Bleach are what make it sell well, the better off we'll all be. I understand that there's some characters and situations that Kubo wants to have in the story, but that doesn't mean we have to like it or buy it. To make things more clear: I think we're all a little tired of 'KUROSAKI-KUN', endless power ups/Namek, and rescue arcs.
If this ultimately ends up skewing the ending of the story somewhat from its original configuration it's probably better for it.

Date: 2011-01-02 05:16 am (UTC)Now, if this was a story about the nakama - if it had more insight into characters like Ishida, Renji and Chad rather than just fights against new foes - I might be more enthused.

Date: 2011-01-02 12:34 pm (UTC)ABOUT the nakama--that's too much to dream for! But more screentime was enough to get me excited. The little bits of their fights had me excited--even just the bit about Chad being forlorn in his hospital bed about being left behind... that much character information is like a glass of water to person in the desert.
You're right about the standard new movie characters and rescue arcs though. This villain actually has an interesting twist but a standard one--I'm always less interested in the OCs than the original manga characters.
