Oy fandom

Oy fandom. If I really wanted to exploit my ever-growing POWAH in the land where people shoot the shit about cartoons (this girl appreciates but knows too well the cosmic significance of a humble el-jay community that is pushing a mere thousand members of Bleachtards), I could tell you guys a backstage story or two, gossip more than a little bit, hang some dirty laundry on my clothesline, but honest-to-Kubo, I'd really rather talk about the actual Bleach manga than about petty goings-on in fandom---as entertaining as these fan goings-on can be. (Wanna read a fun gossipy LJ fan journal? PM me!) I did, however, really want to make an entry tonight that made some clucking noises of disapproval (I've been in fandom too long now to make loud, venting, about-to-explode noises of distress) over some fandom brats at Bleach Asylum who took offense at my signature--because said signature linked to this community.

Yeah ... well, long story short, it does seem that links to certain essays in [livejournal.com profile] bleachness were reported to moderators of BA. I was going to start writing my tsk tsk entry but then I read Jenni's blog entry for today and found that she'd said everything better than I could. (I'm so happy for my lawyer and law student friends. If I ever get into any trouble with the MAN one day, I'll have all sorts of eloquent people stepping up to my defense). Anyway, I'm still more than a little amused that the same people who reported my sig that had a direct link to this analysis of Bleach in it by a horrible horrible IchiRuki shipper either did or did notice the direct link to this essay by a wicked wicked IchiOri shipper in it. Or maybe the entire scope of the comments and shipping controversy in general--or maybe the big words?--were just too much that the tattletales felt strongly enough that the delicate members of BA should be protected from accidentally clicking on such links and being exposed to the confusion and horror and wickedness that is this live journal community of bleach fans. O__O

Saints preserve us.

And may Santen Kesshun shield us all.

Damn, that's fucking stupid. I'd be lying if I said I've never shaken my head at some of the ideas I've come across in fandom, but I've seen this whole "banning links" think play out at other boards before. It didn't work the last five times I've seen it, and it doesn't work now.

I absolutely hate censorship. Personal responsibility, anyone?

It's the first time I've seen it, and I work as a mod in BF for years - the most we ban as links are links to sites with hentai and such things. I don't think it's a good idea, but meh, that's not my forum.

Eh. No idea what to say/think/feel/etc. Fandom = SRS BZNS.

Though I admit a little surprise that nobody has flamed me yet for that Grimmjow/Ichigo essay I posted on this comm. All that work I did, and not one intelligent rebuttal... *sigh*

(hey Deb go look at the latest omake screencaps, or better yet: the latest omake itself! Yer gonna love it. XD)

Dearest debbiechan,

Please refrain from linking us to our own blathering Freudian garbage in your own personal LJ community, so that we wretched speshul snowflakes may not accidentally stumble upon said link and have our delicate sensibilities so mortally offended and our peace-loving souls so deeply disturbed.

While it indeed holds true that not all interpretations are created equal, we have, in our infinitely vague, psuedo-psychoanalytical, madonna-whore complex, borderline incestuous, and increasingly non-sequitur wisdom, subverted said notion.

Heretofore, our interpretations are not only as valid as your own, but made even more so by our utter lack of both authorial and textual support. For we have anime fillers on our side, and this in fact trumps all canon - formerly-heartless hollows, bespectacled knights in shining armor, and rays of light need not apply.

Sincerely yours,
The One and Only Laughing Stock of Fandom

Censorship* is the refuge of cowards. It is also the refuge of people with no argumentative ground to stand on. (The two are not mutually exclusive.) In my view, censorship is an automatic forfeit of a debate - it is the equivalent of saying, "I have no intelligent response to say to you, so I shall hide you from the world in hopes that the world will not know how foolish I am." But no, that's not how life works - the world knows anyway.

Hey, People Trying To Delete My Essay From Existence! This is exactly how this exchange came off to me, okay?

People Trying To Delete My Essay From Existence: SHUT UP SHUT UP SHUT UP SHUT UP LALALALALALALALALALA I CAN'T HEAR YOUUUU IF NO ONE ELSE HEARS YOU EITHER DID THE TREE FALL IN THE FOREST NUH-UH WAAAAAHHHH

Yep. Thanks for the forfeit, People Trying to Delete My Essay From Existence.

*Note: I know I'm not using it in the legal sense, and not as if practiced by a government. This is more "trying to get rid of text we can't stand to read".

Sorry you were the target of "shitforbrains", feeble mind, self-righteous, holier than thou, people that can't take anything that derives or forks from their own ideas. I wish I had the pleasure to have read it before it got deleted o_O. I was also attacked by such cowards and had a lot of my drawings deleted as a result, because there were some that didn't like what they saw EVEN THOUGH THEY WERE ALL PROPERLY LABELED AND FULL OF WARNINGS. I would've liked to have at least a way to defend myself and face this idiots in a debate, but they just throw the rock and hide. I AM SO SICK OF SHIT LIKE THAT. Censorship is the cancer of self-expression. All they need to do is not click in the link if they can't handle it!
You write many wonderful essays and have very nice and provocative ideas that incite and provoke deep thought. I love reading what you have to say. Don't let this crap get to you hon *hugs*.

And you draw beautiful, lovely art. The people who wanted your art gone are just jealous that they don't have you for their own, you know that? (Though lol, I'm pretty sure the censors are glad I am not one of their own XD XD XD)

I'm so sorry that your art was deleted. I hope you don't let it keep you down. It's hard not to feel initially bad, but remember that this is what worthless people do, and that it doesn't make YOU worthless. *hugs*

omg lol oO? geez making a fuss about a link in a sig that no-one is forced to click on? I mean, it may be just me but thats a really petty thing...just dont click on it and that is and if you land on a site were you dont like the content then just close the site again. Thats kinda ridiculous...
Some people seem to have a lot of time at their hands to do stuff like that <.<'

...uuh.

In other news, girls will now be banned from wearing miniskirts in public. God knows poor, impressionable men have no self-control of their own - and we wouldn't want them to get confused and emotional at this display of wickedness and offensive behaviour.

That goes for tiny loinclothes too. Sorry, Yammi and Charlotte Coolhorn. *grins*

Bleachness induced me to rape like 50 guys.

No, seriously. I clicked on the 'Lust Arc' essay by Kylara and all my innocence was stripped from me. I thereby immediately left the house in a frothing, boiling rage and raped like 50 dudes on the way to watch football at Applebees like the depraved sinner I am. If only I hadn't clicked those links--! If only the mods on Bleach Asylum had done something to preserve me in my hour of need!

REPENT, DEBBIE. FOR YOURS ARE THE LINKS OF A LOST MAIDENHOOD BLIGHTED.

That is great haha! they need to get a life or a better hobby if that is what they really do -____-.
There is a LOT of things "wrong" in the internet XDDD (example: Wikipedia XD), fact wise :P. However, this kind of "wrong" is more up to personal opinion and/or perception. Might be "wrong" for them, but it is not wrong for the ones who like it, who are many and that is why there are warnings and such for content. If they go, it is at their own risk and if they want to give an opinion they can write one and if not they can just agree to disagree and that is all, move on, nothing to see here. UGH! We are getting more and more fascists it seems :(

Even if they report the signature a proper mod should ignore them, the link doesn't go to any indecent site like, I don't know a KomamuraxAizen fanclub (pun totally intended). I don't understand why make a fuss about something so trivial as linking your signature to your LJ community, really.

Here we go again! *facepalm*. The usual self righteous morons deciding what self-expression and what opinions are right or wrong and f@cking everyone else up, because they chose "the RED PILL" and couldn't deal with it LMAO. Do you live on in ignorance or do you lead what Aristotle called 'the examined life'. They should've stayed in their world of false sensory information and not go down the rabbit hole if they didn't want a reality check XDD. Matrix jokes aside, I don't get who "shit for brains" goes and reports links to the mods like that. If those people don't like it, then don't go in them and even if they do and read it out of curiosity, why not just agree to disagree and not go "THIS HAS TO BE BANNED AND DELETED FROM ANY EYES, EVEN FROM THE ONES THAT ENJOY THIS, THIS HAS TO BE STOPPED" and can go on living with him/herself? It is beyond me. I don't even want to recall the massive deletion of my sexy Ichiruki fan-arts in the DA, for similar reasons and that retarded MOD that hated fan-artists or I don't know what was up his ass. I didn't have the pleasure to read some of those yet and I hope that they are still there for me to do so. I also hope this witch hunts stop and LJ is the last haven for a lot of us to express our opinions or art and I wouldn't want to have any more wonderful essays to be deleted or taken down T___T. It is our loss, just for 3 idiots that can't handle anything outside their fantasy world.

Heaven help those poor souls who cannot exercise self-control or learn how to ignore things that may offend them for spurious reasons.

Seriously, I feel like taking up Victor Frankl on his proposal for a Statue of Responsibility off the West Coast. Maybe off Santa Monica Beach would be a good idea. Maybe we should petition. The plaque can read, "With great freedom comes great responsibility; learn to take some on your own".

Boy, we're sliding down a really slippery slope if this is really happening over at BA.

This is really stupid. I haven't been on BA for a while so I don't know what's going on but if mods are removing links from people's signatures because the essays that were linked are anti-a-certain-ship, what's next? Banning ANY discussion on other ships even if it's not negative? It's not like [livejournal.com profile] karenai's essay was blatantly offensive - it was literary and analytical. Even if you were a IchiOri shipper, if you had some sense you would at least appreciate the effort and the intelligence in that essay.

This seems like such an underhanded move to me. So if you can't argue against it, you should get somebody to remove it completely? Wow. Really mature, guys. Really mature. (I'm glad that we haven't decided to get all those anti-IchiRuki links removed from other people's sigs either. We know they're wrong; why stoop to their level?)

Can't we express our own opinions? Isn't that what forums are about? It's really simple. If you don't like it, don't click on it. It's not like we are out to get other people and brainwash them to be anti-IchiOri. :/

I'm really disappointed to hear this. D:
