I love it when Kubo-sensei gives his characters these solilogues--Kira's here is so perfect. And the grim philosophy of the 3rd division is a lovely justaposition to that of the 11th (which was recently touched upon by Yumichika). The poetry and action are perfect in this chapter. War is misery and there shall be chicken soup!  BOW TO YOUR SENSEI!

Brief article on Kubo in LA Times A lot of the same old info but a polished presentation (the description of Kubo's delicate fingers tickled me--I have a serious crush on the man's hands) and some tidbits I hadn't heard before like:

"I never think of my work as being targeted at certain readers or at readers in certain countries. I hope as many people as possible will enjoy what I create. I never imagined when I started writing 'Bleach' that it would be published in the U.S., but I'm really glad American readers have taken to it."

I never for a one moment thought that Kubo was writing only for 13 year old Japanese boys.

The trailer for the so-called IchiRuki Bleach movie came out today, and I supposed it says something about me that I watched the trailer before I read the manga chapter. I've yet to be excited about an anime movie but I'm getting caught up in the promotion of this movie. It's only August and already there's a promo IchiRuki cover on Shounen Jump--there wasn't one of Hitsugaya and Ichigo until the December when the movie premiered. This movie is being hyped big-time, and given how much fans love the IchiRuki, it's gonna be a huge success I reckon.



Ichigo got the beautiful color page, as you can see from the manga scan in the first link--I love the fact that Kubo didn't use any ink outlines on the character and that Ichigo looks so ominous, sexy and weird.  The color page whispers Shirosaki to me.  A couple more fights to go and we'll be back to Ichigo and his propensity for turning Hollow and powering up at the very last minute?

Actually, I'm not too fond of that cover. I've heard some people say it's an homage to the SS chapter spread of IchiRuki but I think Rukia looks waaaaaay sad, nearly catatonic in this picture. It's effective, I suppose, but kinda creepy.

It is an interesting cover. Ichigo and Rukia both don't look "happy" at all. Ichigo has a quizzical look, like he can't believe what he is witnessing, but still holding his ground in heroic determination. Rukia has the blankest look I've ever seen, almost like she is in a daze or like she doesn't even know who she is. It is a bit creepy indeed, but very well drawn. It's just very ominous!. Ichigo's drawing is very beautiful and odd at the same time. His face has mix-emotions written all over it, but it looks sad and troubled and almost like he is saying "why don't you just leave me alone...!" but not in an angry way, but more on a "I give up" way. I don't like that at all. Again, very ominous!!! the purplish hollow gothic skull over his heart and the crumbling mask made me thought inmediately of Shirosaki too!!! (you know my drawings and how I feel about that). The fact that he has the shikakusho haori over casual clothes speak of inner turmoil and identity crisis of some sorts. Of course this is just silly speculation and I am reading a lot into it. It might not mean anything at all. Pfffff but I can't help by getting those thoughts, since I am a analitical, thinking being hehehe. Sorry for all that expontaneous ranting...

OOOH and I loved that quote from Kubo too! . I never thought he was targeting audiences myself and I am glad to hear that from Kubo himself. As a true artist you should draw or write or whatever you "create", because you LOVE IT and have PASSION for it and then if people like it is a really nice added bonus well appreciate it... Well, I am done, I promise ^_^...

Yeah, never can fault Kubo-sensei for conveying what he wants to in his drawings. Rukia looks lost, spaced out. It's totally creepy. But she's positioned by Ichigo as if she's on his mind just like in that SS spread where Ichigo is wrapped up in bandages that are also her hair.

That was a very cool chapter. And of course my Ishida-centric brain went "OK, if KT is making these fights with these characters so freaking awesome, maybe... *brain goes off contemplating the possible awesomeness of Ishida's (eventual, someday) return*"

For some reason tho, I can't allow myself to think of particulars just in case I'm disappointed. I'm like "Oh god, no Pesche, PLEASE! Please let the boy have a real magnificent moment. And where Ichigo can see it. Please?" I was relieved to see Renji back with no sign of Dondo, thinking that probably meant Ishida w/o Pesche. Then my brain said "Wait, what if they're BOTH with Ishida? GAHHHHH! NOOOOO!"

Yeah, this chapter was AWESOME. And I'm not a Kira fan. In fact, he's always gotten on my nerves. But this chapter was beautiful.

I'm thinking embarrassing photos from years past when fashions were different, and maybe Ryuuken was just as dorky as his son. (That would make a lot of sense, given their relationship: Ryuuken seeing himself in Uryuu and being reminded of what an idealistic dork he was.)

I'm starting to develop a theory that the whole 'stay away from Shinigami' thing is not to keep Uryuu away from Ichigo, but to keep him away from Isshin, and all the damaging evidence of Ryuuken's past dorkhood which he could provide. Man, can't you just see Uryuu meeting Isshin, and him going "OMG you look just like your dad! Wait! Let me get that shoe box of pics from med school. You won't believe the shit your dad did!" Heh.

They both look so serious in the chapter cover. Rukia looks like she's thinking about something very very hard, and Ichigo...looks like he's pissed about missing nee-san >D

Ah, thanks. I'll have to look that one up. I don't remember Shiro-chan being on another cover but I'm sure his cute little face was. I haven't seen DDR yet either but it looks promising (there's ISHIDA in the woods with Ichigo! XD) and it was promoted a whole lot more than MON.

Well, DDR even had an extra chapter about Hitsugaya. I am not very fond of this kind of promotion. And I prefer only one promotional cover for the movies. I don't want too many anime things mixed with the manga.

Ha ha, that first cover looks a LOT like this one--with Shiro in the background as if in Ichigo's thoughts.

I don't like my anime mixed with my manga either but I loved that Hitsugaya chapter--it was just lovely writing. It was out of nowhere but it was the best from Kubo in a long while.

How does the first cover look like IchiRuki one?Ichigo and Hitsugaya both are in the fighting poses. He's not in the background. he's standing opposite of Ichigo.

Anyway, I think a lot of the DDR promos looked pretty IchiHitsu. At least there wasn't dialogue like "HITSUGAYA IS THE ONE WHO CHANGED MY LIFE." or "Your name, say it again" like there's going to be for this movie (damn, faaaaaaanservice to the max! WOOT!)

Wait until you see the movie, it's totally IchiHitsu. Ichigo just wouldn't leave Toushiro alone XD He's actually acting kinda like a possessive boyfriend in DDR over Toushiro.

I'm starting to find reasons to like him. Which is good. I always felt that I should like him...I was just having trouble working it out.

On the film - does anyone else find the title and the artwork etc ominous for Ichi and Ruki rather than exciting? :S

LOL. I didn't know there are people who so adamant that Kubo wrote Bleach for 13-year old boys. I wonder how old are THESE people who read Bleach, then? XDDDDDDD
