bleachnessApparently it's getting around that Kubo has responded to Orihime haters by saying he's going to draw her more the more hate tweets he gets.
Well, he did say that, but context is king. Do you really believe Sensei is that spiteful? Some people have taken his tweet as a sign (I'm not kidding) that if people criticize Orihime then Kubo will make IchiOri, RenRuki, and IshiNemu canon (wtf). Anyway, for those who were curious, Kubo did respond with his usual sense of humor about Orihime to one reader (who didn't hate on her overtly--but yes, from what I've seen at least one spammer has been consistently sending Kubo Orihime hate spam) and when readers said that they were going to bombard him with hate tweets about their own favorite characters so that he will draw these OTHER characters more, Kubo went along with the joke.
Geez fandom, get a grip.

In the last tweet, it was an Orihime fan saying she hated Orihime in an attempt to get Kubo to draw more Orihime! I do believe myself that Sensei was straight up about Szayel not appearing anymore, though, and that makes me sad. :(

Well, there are always idiots who take even the most obvious jokes and twist them to support their shipping agenda. Though I agree that this one goes to another level of retardation and desperation. That said most of the shippers are certainly not like that luckily.

Gotta say that the sheer drama that the "shipping" community has been spewing over such trivial bullshit mannerisms that are all-in-all overshadowed by the tension of the plot and new developments of the Psyren villains is nothing short of amazing. (Read pathetic)

Definitely Iriritai is not the person who has been spamming Kubo almost DAILY with links to "Orihime is second most hated female character in Jump" site. I would've thought Sensei had blocked that person by now though. Iriritai's tweet seems innocuous enough to me, but Kubo's response may have been to previous tweets by this person or others complaining about Orihime. I can't say for sure.

He's expressed disappointment when his fan mail count drops; he's said he's been moved to tears by letters; he said that reading a letter that understands what he's trying to do is like making a long-lost friend; he's said that it makes him sad when people say "you should've have done this" when it's too late to have changed something in the story; he's said it makes him happy to get drawings from children. Everyone loves Orihime's goofiness, but not everyone supports Ichihime so for some it's hard to enjoy her character 100%.
If by any chance he wasn't kidding about the more hate more panel time thing, than please make that extra panel time worth everyone's while.
Like some character development that DOESN'T involve her feelings for Ichigo for a change. Ishida has a crush on Orihime but you don't see that being brought up so often. Kubo developed his character farther than that thankfully. I wish he'd do the same for Orihime. And by develop I don't mean lose her feelings for Ichigo. Kubo almost had it in the HM arc with "I will unmake the Hoyougokufghfgh" but he never did anything with it.
If he continues to make her SOLE PURPOSE in the manga an Ichigo fangirl and a reality bending hacks healer (which she doesn't even DO anymore :/), than shes going to continue to get love/hate from different parts of the fandom sadly.

And yes, I know I've been saying that for months, years even, but the last panel of her in the chapter when Ryuuken told her that she and Chad were being targeted--I expect something of her. I don't want her nerfed again. I want my Hime panel-time to be worthwhile.
My icon is from chapter 341--I hoped at that moment she would take charge! Kubo nerfed her. She backed down. So many chapters ago. We're overdue, Sensei, LONG OVERDUE.

Date: 2010-12-13 10:55 am (UTC)I would like to think that Kubo is still establishing facts on the ground: Orihime still crushes on Ichigo, still hasn't been able to confront him about it, and that Ichigo is either oblivious or *possibly* nice enough not to call her out on it and embarrass her. (The only clue we have to the latter is that Ichigo mentioned Orihime has been in his room before. This may be because she came in over the past 17 months for casual reasons, or because Ichigo slips and refers to the time she was there before she went to HM. Not entirely clear.)
In other words, it may very well be that Orihime has a much more sophisticated sense of character. Don't forget that Orihime confided to Matsumoto that she knows Ichigo and Rukia have some sort of connection going on - it may very well be that Orihime *knows* it's one sided but just can't help herself.
The problem is that we don't have enough panels or time to get to that level of nuanced understanding. So I'm going to sit tight for a bit and see how it evolves - I'd like to think that this past chapter was Kubo simply reestablishing the baseline, a la very much along the themes of the New Old Bleach / Bleach 2. If taken in that context, I think it makes sense to be patient.
That being said, it's obvious to me that Ichigo isn't the only one who's emotionally constipated. 17 months is a long time, and as much as we may complain about Orihime, don't forget that Ishida is known to be crushing on her. He's had plenty of time to capitalize on the events of HM and get his feelings out in the open, too. And I don't even need to say anything about Ichigo's denial for Rukia, that's just overly obvious.
So it's a bit unfair not to pass the blame around. Only Chad - who has no real part of the love quadrangle that Kubo's got going - can get a free pass. Which, I might add, may be a very interesting reason why we haven't seen him yet. Because, in the context of character development, he just doesn't play a big part of establishing the baseline. We already understand him and that's that.
So I'm holding out, hoping that Kubo will give us the goods soon.
Just my thoughts on the subject.

My attitude precisely. And while everyone does seem to be focused on the characters' relationships (shipping particularly), the curtain is only NOW lifting on the plot of the arc, esp regarding the new characters and their threats.
