I just checked to see how long 13 km is and it's 8.08 miles. Is Gin compensating for something? Out of all the shinigami his sword is boss when it comes to distance fighting but we haven't really seen him in a prolonged battle to find out how good he really is. Ichigo's seriously underestimating Fox-Face. >.> Other than that I enjoyed this chapter. Bring on next week!

Random observation: Aizen hasn't released his Bankai yet. Isshin's gonna have his hands full if he chooses to release it.

Almost went to bed early and missed it! Oh I'd seen the raw but this was grand--thanks Ky! Creepy, creepy, creepy Gin! <3 And Kubo the design nerd with such glorious art and pages of buildings going kerplunk! The LQ scan didn't make much of an impression on me but reading the chapter properly gave the correct respect for Gin's ban kai--imagine that town full of people or imagine him taking out out a whole army miles away. It's a sniper's long range modern sort of weapon--not at all a honest combat weapon. G-d slayer indeed--such a mighty name--may as well carpet bomb an area as use that ban kai...

but I love the heart theme again and Ichigo suddenly all back in the house and macho and handsome and being the zen master of reading his opponents' hearts. Funny that in the flashbacks we don't see Mr. Heartless Ulquiorra (STILL AVOIDING THINKING OF HIM, ICHI?)

Isshin looks hawt but reminds me of Ganjyu--how are both these things possible? Also he is already using KENDO and I am worried about him. I'm really afraid Gin is going to slash him.

I will bet a shake along with Alex's sandwich that we switch to the dome next week. Seems like we can leave these two fights going on in a warm up stage for a while and cut to the penultimate Yammy fight (and Orihime's character development--please, please, please????) and then go back to Ichigo for the close of the arc in midsummer like Sensei said in interview?

I'm liking the way the manga is going. Hard to believe, but I think Kubo got better on fights. (By that I mean actual 1 on 1 fights, not the "Aizen pwnzorz everyone" brand of fighting sequences)

Weirder than I thought it would be for Gin to call Ichigo creepy. (not once, but twice! at that)

IMO, the best part of this chapter was Ichigo's bit about understanding his opponents and their hearts (and how he only understands them after the battle is over since he's usually desperate/impulsive, hah). However, that makes me wonder how we're supposed to define "heart" in each context that it's brought up. Everyone has a different definition of "heart." There's the heart in this chapter, the heart Kaien and Rukia talked about, "six hearts as one" from Orihime's speech, Ulquiorra's heart, etc. They're not all the same IMO.

The rest of the chapter... eh. The Gin and Ichigo conversation actually played out exactly as I'd joked it would (Ichigo was not impressed at all by either the shikai or bankai); Gin's bankai seems to be fairly boring and unimpressive (unless he's just playing with Ichigo, which he probably is, and it's actually capable of much more interesting things); and hey, Gin eyes~!

Loved the color spread though.

I guess the "heart" is just a metaphor for a connection between two people. The meaning differs according to the kind of connection in each context.

Can we mark it off as confirmed that FKT was a waste of panel time? Gin could have taken the pillars out any time he felt like it. The only thing that would make it a more complete waste of time would be if Aizen's next line is that he had the key the whole time (or doesn't even need the key).

Gin is scaring me a lot more with his plain talk right now than Aizen with all his Surpaizing and 'just as I planned'. Very cool chat about not seeing any of each other in their last fight - ah, the old, scowly-snarky Ichi! Now I'm really excited for the next chaper.

First thought when Gin's bankai cut through the buildings: Why the heck didn't he just take out all of the pillars to begin with? (Yes, me too.) Second thought: Is that rebar? Third thought: What exactly does Kubo have against skyscrapers? Fourth thought: Ichigo's inner world is full of skyscrapers. Fifth thought: Skyscrapers?

Keep on bringing the heart talk Kubo sensei. It is all good! Also, I WANT SHINJI'S SOCKS!!!! XD

The question about why there is a FKT arc if Gin's weapon can do that is almost the same as why Frodo did not ride the eagles to Mount Doom to get rid off the Ring of Sauron in LoTR IMHO.

Gin's creepy eyes is creepy. Page 11 and 12 are my fav. And he is sooo not finish yet.

Ichigo MADE ME LAUGH in this chapter. XD The 'quiz show' comment was awesome, and 'funny hearing that come from you.' I love when Ichigo cracks me up, because in my head, I do think he's kind of hilarious, and lately he's been so hurt/crazy/sadface/etc that the humor hasn't come through so much (and for good reason).

Go Kubo for bringing the funny in the middle of the conflict. The funny was the antidote to Gin's creepy OPEN-EYED GLARE. OMGBBQ!1!

I have to agree with qwirky--my favorite part about this chapter was when Ichigo explained how he came to understand people's hearts when and after he fought with them. There's no Ulquiorra fb, of course, since he fought him while he himself was heartless. He may never understand Ulquiorra's heart since that was, essentially, Orihime's job or purpose, not Ichigo's. There could also be the argument that Ulquiorra didn't even have a heart until she reached out to him and helped him understand, but I'm that his heart was already there when he rose up and cut off H2 Ichigo's horn--thus saving Orihime and Ishida--he just didn't know it yet. When he was the one that initiated the reach towards her, that in itself was enough to show that he was more at that point, or at least already walking towards the light so to speak.

But I digress, this chapter wasn't about Ulquiorra. Blasphemy! Lies! Ichigo isn't the MC anymore! Pierrot/Nelchan said so! *cough*

Aizen's kidou made me feel all... tingly inside. And that said kidou being the backdrop for Gin's reintroduction was just all kinds of what I needed to melt into fangirl goo. XD

The little banter between Ichigo and Gin was amusing. Gin's bankai isn't anything special, but neither is Ichigo's--they're both simple and effective for their means, so it's enough. Gin's has the ability to cause a lot more damage given his environment though. If they were in RKT, how many people would have been killed from that one swipe? It's not something you want to think about.

I'm glad Ichigo is back to himself, and he is acting like a badass too--I have to admit, I'm not used to it. He's been losing and struggling in vain for so long that I've forgotten the feeling of what a good victorious spell feels like. However, I'm not convinced, nor do I think that just because he's putting on a good show and spouting some fancy words of wisdom that he's going to win. Gin is deadly. There's no other way to put it. He took a GT to the face and is bleeding a little. Basically, that right there tells us Ichigo is going to need his mask. And of course, it could very well be Ichigo's downfall. The mask was heavy when he fought Yammy, and there's still the ambiguous change that has occurred with his hollow that hasn't been addressed yet. Ichigo is most likely his own worst enemy here, not Gin. Shirosaki poking out his ugly head would be good entertainment for us, but for Ichigo, notsomuch.

Shinji cover is all kinds of amazing. I'm not imagining him naked on that couch and playing jazz, no no, not at all... >.>

But Ichigo got the bad image of Gin's 100 "sword" lengths in his head and it shows in the panel right after Gin says it. Although I never would have guessed Aizen had such sword lust he needed one that big.

Glad to see Gin's bankai is as stealthy as I hoped for, since the spoilers description made it sound quite funny XDDD. Beautifully drawn panels and a lot of dynamism. Not a bad "break" chapter.
