I'm directing you to the spoilers because I can't help it--this week I want to talk about the chapter NAO! Spoilers gratis of 69 of 2ch, Spacecat of Bleach Asylum and translation by Danna here
So, as we all expected, the thrower of the fireball of last week's cliffhanger wasn't Uchiha Sasuke with his goukakyu no jutsu! IT WAS MOMO! We have Aizen calling her a trifle. We have Hitsugaya's reiatsu becoming disordered. We have Matsumoto not quite trusting her. We have Momo showing her stuff. We have, after two long horrible years of ohmygdKUBOhowCOULDyou? , a wonderful fiesty beloved character reviving out of a love coma to show that she can fight for the friends she betrayed for an illusion. And is this the perfect prelude to showing Orihime coming out of her own self-doubt and hesitancy to fire Tsubaki?
I'm so psyched!
Next week, a color spread.

Date: 2008-11-12 03:18 pm (UTC)Kubo delivers. You have to wait, patiently or tearing your hair out strand by strand for months, but he always delivers.

Date: 2008-11-12 03:21 pm (UTC)I can't wait for pix. I want to see what she looks like. He's been drawing her baggy-eyed and psycho in omake so I wonder if she's got the old perky look back.
She's a beloved character. People are going to say that ohhh, she finished so high in the character polls, higher than Orihime, so this is Kubo caving to his audience, but seriously, the story has called for her return. It's been in the making for a long while. What was Kubo going to do? Leave such a wonderful character to utter tragedy and victimization by Aizen?

Date: 2008-11-12 03:51 pm (UTC)I personally think it would be great if she still looked psycho... when cute little girls go insane. Maybe because I find the fanart where she is all "muahahaha" an evil looking and Aizen has an "oh no help me" face hilarious.

Date: 2008-11-12 03:55 pm (UTC)That would be a dream come true for me--Momo handing Aizen's ass to him, but it's really out of the scope of reality, both for this story and for the shounen story form. But yeah, I love all the MOMO'S REVENGE scenarios too. XD

Date: 2008-11-12 03:59 pm (UTC)After Mayuri, who, you know, committed illegal experiments on the souls of Quincy and had parents burn their own children, the one Bleach character I was the MOST pissed at was Hinamori. I mean, I understood it. "Admiration is the furthest thing from understanding," Aizen said himself, and she was a wonderful girl who was used up by the Master, but oh oh oh, how could she? How could she betray her childhood friend?
And for Kubo to leave that storyline undone for two years... and then to show Orihime in peril of the same mistakes--ARGH. In love with a girlish illusion, full of self-doubt, not trusting her friends, her face so close to Aizen's seductive charms!!
I can't wait for the rest of this story.

Date: 2008-11-12 04:05 pm (UTC)I'm just wondering how she got there. Surely it's against orders. No one trusted her to stand against the enemy--seems like Matsumoto still doesn't.
I expect Nanao will show up soon with some story about how Momo tricked her and escaped her nanny-watch.

Date: 2008-11-12 04:14 pm (UTC)That seems like a good guess as how it happened. She must've been under some surveillance (knowing her history of escaping from jail and hospitals hehe). She must of tricked somebody and got out. Nanao seems plausible, we haven't seen her yet and Sunshui is there, so where is she?

Date: 2008-11-12 04:03 pm (UTC)Eh, I'll wait to see how it unfolds. The ship battles will come out, no doubt. But it's more than a battle of pairings at this point--the real stories are about how each character evolves as an individual. I'm looking forward to finding out more, ANYTHING, about Ulquiorra, period, and my strong suspicion is that Orihime will be involved somehow in that story.
I would like to see Orihime and Ichigo fight side by side only because it's something Orihime wanted for herself. Out of context of the rest of the story, though, I don't see it as wedding bells, but in my not so humble opinion, I think there are only five fans left who really believe that Ichigo and Orihime are going to end up to gether, haha.

Date: 2008-11-12 04:12 pm (UTC)Ichigo and Orihime fighting side by side I can't see it but if it happened I'd hope she'd be over him. I still prefer her like a princess more so than a fighter.

Date: 2008-11-12 04:19 pm (UTC)I look at it this way--her fairies are extensions of her being. Only one sixth of them is a fighter, but one sixth of them IS TSUBAKI. If she can fire him successfully (and she HAS to--she's misfired him twice now, three times is a charm in shounen!), that doesn't make her a figher--she's still mostly a healer and protecter. Those fairies make up the larger parts of her personality but she CAN fight when she has to.

Date: 2008-11-12 06:18 pm (UTC)Two things:
- Momo, don't backtrack and succumb to Aizen's wiles.
- Hitsugaya, don't you DARE TRY TO PROTECT HER. Let the girl fight, FFS.

Date: 2008-11-12 09:58 pm (UTC)Hinamori is my BIGGEST pet peeve EVER. The special snowflake artist who acts like she's special, is 'speshful' everyone loves her, and then something tragic and mysterious happens to her and you feel bad but then unlike the special unique snowflower she doesn't recover, her automatic recovery doesn't make me feel anything because it's only one character flaw I have issues with, and it's still a big deal to me.

Date: 2008-11-13 01:16 pm (UTC)You'll hear glass breaking for miles from my fangirl screams the day Isshin and/or Ryuuken show up but I'm sure Kubo is saving them for the bigger fights. Right now, Momo just made fodder fights worthwhile and added the psychological fascination factor to Hitsu's.

Date: 2008-11-13 12:20 am (UTC)But maybe it was Nanao - Nanao is a kidou master, and she haven't had so much light in the mangá for some time. Mabe it's time to show her zampakutou.

Date: 2008-11-13 12:43 am (UTC)Was she wrong? Well, yes, but others like, say, Ichigo, aren't much better about rushing with wrong conclusions. Should she have maybe thought deeper before going against Hitsu? Maybe, but he himself understood that she was under a lot of stress and confusion. I'm actually damn proud that she didn't just sit in her jail and just rock back and forth weeping for herself. She took action to do the right thing, even if it was hard for her.
What I didn't like was her part right after she woke up, when basically her role was helping everyone's favourite character, Hitsugaya, develop angst and deep hidden sadness and resolve to help his friend blah blah. So I hope it's not something similar again, when she falls back and it just creates oh-so much pain for Hitsu. Falling back won't bother me as much if it's for her own development, not others. So here's to hoping her role will be more for herself from now on!
Just one another note to already too-long comment: anyone notice the difference in Gin and Aizen's reaction to their vice-captains? Gin's proud of Kira; Aizen doesn't give a damn. Too bad we didn't get to see Tousen's reaction to Hisagi, although I guess the bond there isn't as complicated as the other two.

AH YES! Aizen never gives a damn. Gin, for all his ... murderousness... has bit of humanity. He obviously cares for Kira and for Rangiku. And for Aizen, no doubt.

*snorts* Yeah. One of the reasons I'm rooting for Momo to snap out of it. I mean, you can fangirl/be in love with Aizen AND STILL BE A COMPETENT MEMBER OF SOCIETY.

Date: 2008-11-13 09:09 am (UTC)we'll probably be asked to accept Momo's recovery at face value for now, with her true resolution not being until she's face to face with Aizen again.

Date: 2008-11-13 01:13 pm (UTC)I don't think we're being asked to accept a recovery at face value. Obviously she escaped, Rangiku still has doubts--I believe we're all supposed to doubt her.
Our soliloquy may be yet to come.
