adam_epp has been posting the chapters of his AU fic "Dreams and Fears," so I guess I should finally share my response to our Alternate Universe challenge. Vaguely, the prompt was: stay in character.

Ichigo Kurosaki, rookie inspector for the Metropolitan Police, feels duty-bound to investigate the case. What he doesn't know yet is that he's about to come face-to-face with the sordid, unscrupulous side of his beloved archipelago.


I'm hesitant to cross-post this to ichi_ruki because this fic of mine focuses on the murder mystery. It has a distinct lack of shippy-ness, aside from a moment or two in the second chapter. I guess this fic will be better appreciated by a Bleach fan who doesn't care if Ichigo's only smex is of the eyeball variety.

From what I've read so far, I can understand your hesitation. The tone of that place can be too much of a SUGAR HIGH!!!1!1 for me. However, since it *is* mostly about Ichigo and Rukia (Whether platonic or otherwise), there shouldn't be a problem as long as you let people know ahead of time. There's no such thing as too much exposure ;)

I'll leave a review after I get done reading the chapter.

Thanks. I know that there are lots of other subtle IchiRuki works out there, but they are really outnumbered by the lemons. Since I'm better known for writing cheese-fests it's kind of tough, knowing that this will disappoint those who come to expect pr0n from me. Heheh.
