Perhaps Aizen was so taken aback by that that he became angry, bitter, maybe even a bit nihilistic, and decided to become the just and merciful God that he sees the world lacking: The God that would protect all souls, reunite the dead with their ancestors, and not condemn people to the Zaraki and Kusajishi districts of Soul Society for no apparent reason. Even if that means tearing down the universe and recreating it from scratch, even if that means using less than savory allies to get it done.
