Not so much a backstory as it is an introspective, but fascinating, nonetheless. XD
Pretty much all we get in terms of previous history is what Ulquiorra looked like as a hollow (how funny that he had bat wings down near his waist. I'm reminded of Morrigan from Darkstalkers. XD) and that he's the second confirmed natural arrancar of the Espada.
His monologuing and the last 3 pages or so were definitely a fine way to make me care about Bleach for five more minutes though. I can't squee as effectively as the fangirls, so I'll leave it at that. ^^
