Tsubaki's won once, and he's failed twice. So yeah, third time's the charm after two failures--that's shounen formula too. Witness Ichigo's battles with Byakuya, GJ and Ulqui. I'm using the formula to predict his second encounter with Aizen too (the one coming up)--it should be FAIL and then the next time, the third time Ichigo meets Aizen he'll finally defeat him.
