Rukia Fanart Cultural Exchange!

I’m here to bring you the most charming request from a Japanese fanartist on her site.

It’s already inspired some arts and a wonderful feeling of cultural exchange. Koto is asking fans of Rukia around the world to draw Rukia in the traditional costume of your country!

A Request from Koto: http://koto.skr.jp/blog/log/eid195.html

Dear overseas fanartist

The Kimono is a Japanese traditional costume.
I want to see the overseas traditional costume, too.
Please draw Rukia wearing the traditional costume of your country.

Here is the link to her blog where she posted all the fanarts of Rukia in national costumes. http://koto.skr.jp/blog/sb.cgi?cid=11

Some of my friends in the IchiRuki FC at BA have already had their arts posted at the site. Check out kisu’s amazing work (she drew a Thai dress to represent Annie’s country that is breathtaking!) here: http://bleachasylum.com/showpost.php?p=1847446&postcount=673

I have such rich and varied (MONGREL) cultural heritage that I haven’t decided what costume to draw Rukia in yet. I was born in Ecuador so I think I’ll probably go with a native Ecuadorian dress even though it isn’t very flattering to the female figure---but Rukia can make anything look cute!

eta: if you don't know Japanese or how to post images on websites, leave your art and brief message for Koto in a comment here with me and I'll find someone to translate and post for you. I hope we get a lot of looks for Rukia! I know she's got fans all over the world and it's so fun to think of dressing her up this way!

I love this idea, but England doesn't actually have a traditional dress. I was thinking of maybe doing a traditional Victorian dress instead but I think I need to be a little more in practice for something as ambitious as that...

So Debbie is from Latinoamérica :DDDD

I still can't believe I dared to draw Rukia xDDD I enojyed it though. All the fanarts are really amazing <3

Puerto Rico's traditional clothing is similar to that of Spain, so I guess I could draw her in white lace :3

You know, I really love this idea! :D

America doesn't have treditional set fit of clothes. xD We always chage whenever times change. (Thern again, I live in Illinois... where gangsta's live.)

... >.> I'll try to draw Rukia in gangsta clothes if I have the time...

Same as England T_T, We french don't really have a traditionnal costume, save for Bretagne, Corse and Alsace T_T Since I don't like the Bretagne's one and Alsace's is already taken, I guess I shall draw either a Marie-Antoinette Rukia, or a Corsican Rukia. Or both XD Though Corsican Rukia would be hotter, since they're dressed in black =D

[identity profile] karenai.livejournal.com 2009-11-08 10:37 pm (UTC)(link)
You could draw Rukia cosplaying as Napoleon.

*gets shot*

They're both short, no

Wow, that sounds like a lot of fun :) We've already had an official spread with Rukia in Chinese clothing though...

[identity profile] marionette71088.livejournal.com 2009-11-10 12:53 am (UTC)(link)
But that's Qipao...I always considered Hanfu more representative of traditional Chinese clothing. That's if you are a Han of course, it would be really fun to see her in ethic Chinese clothing that's not from the Han tradition.

Ah, someone beat me to it. :)

[identity profile] nooziewoozie.livejournal.com 2009-11-08 08:45 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm very, very tempted to draw Rukia in a traditional Hyderabdai wedding dress, though I'm afraid she'd drown in all the folds and glitter. (And probably throw a hissy fit, for having been made to wear it, too.)

...a saree it is, then! ^_^

[identity profile] melodymix.livejournal.com 2009-11-08 09:02 pm (UTC)(link)
This sounds so exciting ^^ I wanna do it

But if I have to draw a New Zealand's traditional clothes then I have to draw her in a singlet, boots, hat and in stubbies XDDD Hahaha

Comment: As England doesn't have a Traditional Costume, I've picked a Victorian Costume instead. I think Byakuya would approve of such formal clothes!

I'll try to do something then. SInce I'm planning for a long time to dress all the Six hearts in Mariachis clothes >DDDD bwahahaha! Mexico have a lot of traditional costumes depending of the region of my country. Mmmh

Maybe I dress Rukia as a "Jarocha" which is the typical dress from Veracruz (the State I live) Look there~

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3415/3207419134_6650f32878.jpg (i think this suit Orihime better)

Since Rukia has that strong spirit I think this suits her better: http://images04.olx.com.pe/ui/2/75/81/f_25377481_1.jpeg

What do you think???

[identity profile] karenai.livejournal.com 2009-11-08 10:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, I think Rukia would look charming in either. But what nice clothing to pick from, you can't go wrong XD XD XD

//SInce I'm planning for a long time to dress all the Six hearts in Mariachis clothes //

This is a really excellent idea.

Wow just... just because it is a beautiful opportunity I will say Bolivia present!
but I fear I will lose time trying to decide which of the 9 traditional costumes I must make Rukia wear... sexy, classical or I should try to mix up all of them?

[identity profile] elfishscallywag.livejournal.com 2009-11-09 09:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Ooh, pics for the ones you're trying to choose from? You could do all your favourites if you don't think it'll be too much work.

[identity profile] masakochan.livejournal.com 2009-11-08 09:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I got the greatest idea for Rukia in the 'American' term. Go super old-school: Dress her up as an Indian/Native American.
cyanglow: tgcf screencap (tiny!rukia)

[personal profile] cyanglow 2009-11-08 10:21 pm (UTC)(link)
A cross between this and this but with braids or pigtails. I wish my drawing wasn't borked or I'd give it a shot!

[identity profile] elfishscallywag.livejournal.com 2009-11-09 09:21 pm (UTC)(link)
That second pic is so cuuuuuuuute ♥.♥ I could totally see her with something like that! And the first is just hot, love Western!Rukia.

[identity profile] velvetsword.livejournal.com 2009-11-09 12:58 am (UTC)(link)
I'm from California, so I would like to submit that Rukia should be drawn in an old Body Glove t-shirt from the 80's with the original hand outline design on the front, a pair of board shorts, a large pair of mirrored aviator sunglasses (CHiPs sunglasses) and a pair of Birkenstocks, complete with hemp ankle bracelet and pink jelly wrist bracelet.

With pigtails fastened with cherry-shaped barettes and a boombox playing 'Boys of Summer' by Don Henley.

Such is the native dress of my people.

I'm also from California.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooooooooooOOOOOOOOO~

All I have to say is... Is there a Rukia for Germany yet?! I can just see it now, her dressed in that stereotypical German milkmaid dress with the pigtails, holding a keg of beer and bratwurst!

[identity profile] marionette71088.livejournal.com 2009-11-10 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
Rukia the barmaid!

[identity profile] spatulacastle.livejournal.com 2009-11-09 04:44 am (UTC)(link)
I'd like to take advantage of your offer as well, if I could.

Pic is here: http://spatula-castle.deviantart.com/art/Flapper-Rukia-143007796

Comment: America doesn't really have much of a traditional costume, so I picked the popular flapper style outfit worn by many ladies in the 1920's.

[identity profile] nooziewoozie.livejournal.com 2009-11-09 06:05 am (UTC)(link)
I would also like to say that I am a n00b who neither speaks Japanese nor knows how to post her offerings on websites, so I'd really appreciate it if you could pass this along! It's Rukia in a saree, which is just a really long bit of rectangular cloth that is wrapped around the body. The one in the picture is actually a simplified version of one that my mom has--the real one is much more glitzy.

Image (http://s220.photobucket.com/albums/dd66/brown_girls/?action=view&current=sari_rukia.jpg)

Also, because I had color pencils strewn all over the place anyway, I drew a picture of Ichigo in a sherwani, a traditional outfit for men. In Hyderabad, where I come from, it's generally worn on special occasions, and almost always worn by grooms. The picture isn't much, as I'm just getting the hang of this coloring thing, but I hope you like it!

Image (http://s220.photobucket.com/albums/dd66/brown_girls/?action=view&current=sherwani_ichigo.jpg)

[identity profile] ce-lestic.livejournal.com 2009-11-09 08:59 am (UTC)(link)
I also drew Rukia in a saree...I'm struggling with the lineart, that's why I didn't color it yet! I think I'll just put a scan up sice it looks better anyway...and the saree is just lovely!!

[identity profile] hanaki-neko.livejournal.com 2009-11-09 07:00 am (UTC)(link)
oh I want to draw Rukia in my country traditional costume too XD. When I saw Kisu's art, oh I want to draw it so much XD

But maybe you guys won't recognize what country I from *_*. Oh never mine, tonight I'll draw no matter what XD

(Anonymous) 2009-11-09 10:23 am (UTC)(link)

Anyway, I don't think there's a way to put Rukia in Singaporean national costume, since we have at least four... and T-shirt/shorts/flip-flops isn't exactly very Rukia, is it?
Sigh.
