Ring in the New Year with Byakuya being ASTONISHINGLY generous to Ichigo! He gives him a present! Oh what could this mean? This omake is too adorable, and looks like it's going to be an IchiRuki 2009! Thanks to MEL ( melodymix ) for finding it and the other WSJ picture below it.

Ulquiorra, you antagonizer, you. He sure does it well. I guess the big thing here is that Ichigo sure as hell can't make up his mind over whether or not he completely trusts Orihime. I think you're right, Debbie, she'll probably try something that will look ambiguous on the surface, and there could be some who will have absolute faith in her (Rukia?! QUINCY ARCHER?!!!!), and others (coughIchigocough) who could initially condemn her.

I'd really like to see it go down that way. There would be a certain symmetry to Ichigo's mistrusting Orihime that even the shippers would appreciate. In the Grimmjow fight, Orihime mistrusted Ichigo with his mask and had to reconnect to him (after the pep talk by Nel). It was a step foward in their relationship even though it demonstrated how the two didn't really connect.

If Ichigo were to distrust Orihime or doubt her (an echo of what happened with Ulquiorra the time Ichigo flipped out when Ulqui was goading him) then maybe a pep talk (Rukia? Ishida?) would bring Ichigo and Orihime more to a nakama level that they haven't shared before this arc. Don't forget--Orihime's love feelings need resolution and a confirmation of the two as nakama might do that.

Ever read those Colorful Bleach omakes? They ran in a different version of Jump, and they're usually these little colored omakes that Kubo drew? Two years ago, there's one where Ganjyu comes to give some sort of unwanted New Year's present to Ichigo, and and when he comes, Ichigo and Rukia are eating New Year's mochi. And Rukia is wearing either a kimono or a yukata, forget the distinction. *_* it's really adorable and very laid back.

regarding that omake, I believe what Byakuya gave Ichigo is like a free pass to eat and spend in any store run by the Kuchiki family. That's why it says "Kuchiki Pass" on the gift. and I don't even want to think about what this suggest. XD

I love the omake!! Byakuya is wise..he understands that Ichigo is not only a high schooler, but a cheap, tightwad with no money. Therefore, this solves some problems.

I always jokingly saw Ichigo addressing Byakuya in the familiar as a preview of things to come. But whatever, that omake was too cute. Future brother in law cute. Kotetsu's spin makes my day.

Oh man, so much speculation about Orihime. There are so many good theories floating around that I really don't know what to expect at this point. But once again I felt as if Ichigo needed a reminder on why he was there.

And goshdarn where is the sexy librarian Quincy in all of this? Either he has important business with Mayuri (perhaps Szayel's lab has HM secrets?) or maybe he's making a grand entrance later. Or soon.

Ulquiorra, oh Ulquiorra, I love this chapter because of you. I was...actually rather shocked at how nonchalant he still appears while fighting Ichigo, only using one hand and still having the other in his pocket. What I found was really interesting was how he uses his sword... almost just like an extension of his arm as opposed to a separate weapon, especially when you see how he blocks attacks and jabs. Did his style of fighting have more of a western (European) style, or is it just me? In any case, seeing the way he moves - his fighting style in general, was really interesting. I can't wait to see what it's like when he's really riled up.

OMFG, ULQUIORRA OWNS MY PANTIES IN THIS CHAPTER. The art is beautiful, beautiful, and Ulqiuorra's style of fighting--omfg.

People have been noting how his sword is an extension of his hand. The other hand in his pocket--how fucking cool is that. And he's faster than Ichigo's bankai. He's just toying with the boy. He's so graceful and precise. Even his cero---was that awesome badassery or WHAT? Like a whisper over metal. POW!

Yes, he's so elegant in movement and just like EVERYTHING. I wonder if this is any hint at what his release may be like (since Grimmjow's coincided with his fighting style), though I think Kubo could hang that over our heads for a good while.:( So far Ichigo hasn't had the honor of the two hand upgrade. Even though Ulquiorra said he would destroy him, I'm still not getting the impression that he really takes the boy seriously. At the moment he more so seems to be picking his brain. But, at least he's a villain/opponent who acknowledges when someone gains strength and is at times stronger than even he is.

Total damn Byakuya parallel. WHEN DO WE GET ULQUIORRA BACKSTORY KUBO AGHHHH.
