My friends who were at SDCC, aka Kubo Con, are just now collapsing in their beds with jet lag. I'm dizzy with vicarious fangirl glee.  Apparently the panel went smoothly, questions were screened so shippers didn't make a carnival of the proceedings (and here I was worried!), Kubo entered the room wearing Renji-worthy movie-star shades and a video was shown of Kubo's studio which included the chair  modeled after Aizen's. Aizen = Kubo-sensei?  The man has said in interview before that he most identifies with Ishida. Saturday, he confirmed that Quincy means five and that five is "symbolic" in Japan, haha---like what number isn't?  (Take that, [profile] andrew_jp ! You won't hear the end of my FIVE-ery suppositions now! XD) and that Ishida was conceived as Ichigo's rival. Not big news. Those of you who have read the fanblogs about the panel know that. That an Isshin backstory is confirmed. Wee. Yes, well, it's just NICE to know it's coming. What I was particularly pleased by was the news that Kubo-sensei  planned Isshin to be a Shinigami from the beginning--so much for criticisms that he pulled that reveal out of his ass for the shock value in the middle of the story. I always knew something was up with Isshin--his relationship with Ryuuken was hinted at in early chapters when he asked for the director of Karakura Hospital, and yes, Kubo-sensei has a long-range plan ye naysayers.

A little exclusive gossip and the last you'll get from me because I will try to respect my Kubo-sensei's privacy from hereon: He's straight, has a girlfriend (no, not me--a REAL one), and was last seen on a plane en route to Vegas. Haha. Our lovely [personal profile] jaina in a polka-dot dress got her interview with him at last and I'm so proud and happy for her.  There's only so much she can share ***waits for her to wake up from jet-lag*** but just from her descriptions of how he shook her hand and looked her in the eye and was SO CUTE in person, I'm swooning like it's 1964 and she just met Paul McCartney!

Fandom is particularly nuts at the moment and yes, celebrity is a silly phenomenon, and of course I have a life and school board meetings to go to and organic fruits to harvest and salad dressing bottles to wash and recycle but Kubo-sensei was in America and my six degrees of separation cozied up to my favorite manga-ka on the crazy coast of California this past weekend. I'm totally happy.

*wiggles hips and shoots sparkles from eyes*

I don't fangirl any movie stars. Just Kubo-sensei.
