The Fade to Black movie "manga" version came out today. For those of you who've never seen one of these, it's not drawn by Kubo -- it tells the Fade to Black movie story but with screencaps from the movie cut into panels, like a manga.

But even so, Kubo-sensei wrote a volume poem for it!

This cut, right here, here lies the poem )

It's another Fade to Black post! But probably the last one you'll see me do, because ENGLISH SUBS ARE OUT BY DATTEBAYO.

http://www.dattebayo.com/t/bmovie3.torrent

Dattebyao apparently changed how they're subbing Bleach from now on, so might want to read their announcement post.

http://www.dattebayo.com/pr/123

I took the liberty of collecting every single scrap of FTB merchandise that either I or other people did, and I posted them at [livejournal.com profile] ichi_ruki (HERE). If people want to go find goodies for the movie, they... really should all be there, including links to screencaps, ripped trailers, OP & ED animation (creditless)... etc.

This post is open for people to discuss their thoughts on Fade to Black, if they so wish. Discuss anything in that vein, comments, reactions, whatever.

Fade to Black - random thoughts )

I'm still waiting for Dattebayo's English sub of Fade to Black. I haven't even watched the raw of the movie although my copy came in days ago. It's been a busy week but now I'm free and a tad impatient (breathes in, breathes out, huff, huff, huff) for the grand subtitled experience...so here's some stuffs to pass the time.

Choose as many options as you like in the next useless poll:

[Poll #1466065]

For those interested in participating in the continuing ship polls, a message from the moderator.

THIS Round 4 poll featuring Ulquiorra and Orihime will be open at 10 PM EST tonight and remain open until 10 PM EST Wednesday, October 7th.

Attention Bleach feminists! Bleach: Teatime by silvanoir is one of the most wonderfully sick fanarts I've seen in a while. I love it and imagine it was a blast to draw. Aizen lovers need not click the link.

From ImprafiatBlue, a fanartist in Japan, this little commentary on the FTB advertising cracked me up:

I made some icons from the Fade to Black scans that were recently posted. I tried to darken a couple of them to decrease the graininess, but....^^; And I'm sorry if I didn't make one of a picture you really liked...I can do more if you want :D

Anyway, I hope you like!

Picture cut! I can do it XD )

I've been scanning from my pretty Fade to Black limited edition DVD. It's just perfect. It's also too long for my scanner, so I'm not scanning everything.

Can I say, the Japanese sure know how to put together a limited edition? This thing is GORGEOUS. It's really shiny and heavy and beau-ti-ful.

Items of interest include:

Kubo's drawings of the sibling villains in the movie.
A special message from someone (the makers of the DVD?) in ... Rukia code.
Random storyboards and characterboards, including a shinigami captains height chart (+ Rukia + Ichigo + siblings).
Hot Urahara.
LOTS OF ICHIGO AND RUKIA RUKIA RUKIA.

Note: everything is untranslated. I don't know JP, can't tell you what it says. Sorry! ^^;;;;

Also, credit to [livejournal.com profile] mikaoru for being a doll and 'shopping together the DVD side image of Sode no Shirayuki.

I'm so excited. When I read on 2ch yesterday all about the goodies that were coming in the FTB Limited Edition, it felt like early Hanukah--a notebook, giant poster, notes that Kubo had reportedly put "all his soul" into. This morning I got notice from amazonjp that my copy was in the mail and that was a surprise--they weren't supposed to ship it to me until November because I'd ordered it with the manga calendar to save shipping! Oh well, they'll probably charge my credit card extra, but I don't care. I'm in a celebratory mood. Some Japanese fans have gotten their copies already, so Annie gave me the Kubo sketch this morning and Dian translated Kubo's message.

No spoilers yet so shall we continue discussing such crucial matters as Rukia's pantyline in the FTB DVD illustration? I believe we have confirmation now of a Brazilian and the most revealing pose ever from a Bleach character in official merchandising. Curious, because Kubo-sensei has kept Rukia covered, albeit sexy, throughout the manga, and always demure like in the two swimsuit spreads but ...

And then our own dear perverted [livejournal.com profile] karenai made this 300% blow up in this post here and I've apparently lost a bet because I really DID NOT believe Rukia was showing that much skin. I'm still not convinced the whole to-do isn't an illusion of flesh-colored obi-shadow.

This week marks the 8th anniversary of Bleach the manga. I expected a cover and spread but neither are announced. Do expect a word or two from Kubo, though. EIGHT YEARS. Can you believe? Bleach is a little older than my daugher who's already lost most of her baby teeth and knows how to cuss in three languages. How far have we come since a little Shinigami walked into Kurosaki Ichigo's bedroom? We all know that's Shinji on far right of the title page and some discarded, never used character on the left and I wonder how much of Bleach was already there, like DNA, eight years ago, and what's really new. I do know that I appreciated the character development in this story, even as the attention given to so many characters has slowed down the plot, and I've always marveled at the growth of Kubo's art. Some prefer his early style, some his SS style but I love how he's drawing now--where you have to look at close-up objects once, twice, and then maybe turn the page back to look at them again because that abstract motion is later zoomed away from and shown to be Shinji twirling his hat on his finger in gleeful anticipation and there's a sense of a pendulum swinging as well. Orihime's face seen through Ulquiorra's dying eyes isn't at all the Orihime Kubo usually draws--her face is more oval shaped, mature, beatific.  The art has glorious poetry for me and I love Bleach more than ever. How about you?

Sketchy just came back from Japan (with IshiHime doujin for meeee, thank youuu Sketchy! I am yours!) and a report from Jump Festa and a many doodles and a review of Fade to Black which she saw twice!

Follow the link to Sketch's very fangasmic LJ post.

There, that should hold you until we get the spoilers for 341. My looking over archives shows us never getting January spoilers before the 16th. There are some fake ones afoot--something about Shirosaki coming out and Ulqui asking him to join the Espada (ROTFL) and another one that has Ishida showing up with Wonderweiss (I guess they were at synagogue together?)

Oh, and Sketch confirmed the Red String of Fate scene in the FTB movie. *hearts and fangirls* There's been lots of art coming from Japan about that scene but this one, oh, this one is my favorite:

Fanart by Japanese artist Moderato )

If the Ishida and Wonderweiss spoiler is true, sorry for spoiling everyone but... BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_debbiechan_/

MANGA SPOILERS THROUGHOUT THESE SPECULATIONS.

There have theories floating around longer than I've been in the fandom and that's a long while. Many of us threw out the Kaien=Ichigo idea when AAroneirro showed up with Kaien's soul-body (there are other possibilities but if Kaien's soul-body was inside Aaro then according to some law of the Bleachverse about reishi occupying the same soul-bodies at the same time, it seems like Kaien couldn't be Ichigo--right?)

Recently, Kubo-sensei revealed in interview that he had a large role in the closing lines of Fade to Black which contained Ichigo's postulating about a previous connection between himself and Rukia.  This is how [livejournal.com profile] melodymix translated the crucial phrase from the novel that was just released to accompany the movie's release:

Ichigo says:

...なぁ、死が本当におわりじゃねぇんなら、俺たちだってあの出会いが最初じゃなくって...ずっと前か ら繋がっていたのかもしねぇな

"...Hey, if death really isn't the end, even for us maybe that was not our first meeting... maybe we were connected way before that"

What I find interesting is that while some people call this Ichigo's answer to Orihime's Five Lifetimes speech, it's really a very Kubo-esque parallel. Orihime presumes/imagines that she would love Ichigo for her next five lifetimes--note that this is something that hasn't occurred yet; it only exists in her imagination; it is only hopefulness and girlish wishing.

Meanwhile, Ichigo presumes that he and Rukia have already shared lifetimes. The intimacy and connection has already occurred.

If Orihime's words were shown to be unequivocably romantic, then what about Ichigo's?

True, one occurs in the manga and the other in the movie but after Shishou's level of involvement in the movie, his talking about how he fussed over those very lines at the end of the story, how can anyone doubt his intentions?

I really wonder if reincarnation is going to play a part in the Bleach manga. So many of us dismissed the Kaien=Ichigo theory long ago and claim to dislike the reincarnated idea because it somewhat belittles the connection that Ichigo and Rukia built up here in this one lifetime, but given the hints, is it possible that Kubo-sensei may still go that way?

Thoughts?

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_debbiechan_/

That's what the announcement said. "A poster Kubo-sensei drew with all his might." Here it is--it's too big to get an HQ of, but thanks to Mel and Neko of BA we have these scans. And guess what? The way Kubo drew Dark Rukia, she isn't wearing any underwear!

Mighty Fade to Black Poster )

This poster was included with this week's Shounen Jump, which was a double issue, which means we won't have any new Bleach chapters until the New Year. But we all got cliffhangers and Kabooms (Naruto, haha) and presents to hold us until the next issue.

ETA: HQ Wallpaper thanks to Turlte is here
[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_debbiechan_/

Fade to Black premiered third in the box office this past weekend in Japan (Diamond Dust Rebellion had premiered at fourth last December) and I'm getting tidbits still from the flurry of promotional stuffs from my Japanese-speaking friends. Not confirmed but from good sources--Kubo-sensei gave a television radio interview in which he admitted to being a "sadist" who likes to tease people, loves "big boobs" (duh), loves Aizen but wouldn't want to fight him because he's "too scary," and says Bleach is Bleach thanks to Ichigo and Rukia. (ETA: LINK TO RADIO INTERVIEW FROM [profile] melodymix  here. You need an account to listen). 2ch is abuzz with what it calls the "kissingtheforeheadhug" pic from the movie pamphlet and fan blogs are posting fanarts and sketches from the movie that illustrate the face-cupping, Ichigo stroking Rukia's hair and Urahara's smirky "sure, right" reaction to Ichigo's hesitancy when he defines Rukia as his "precious nakama." Follow the shiny link to post by Sketchbaka

That, and I heard that Koma-chan's ban-kai is kick-ass. I get thrills when I see it in the manga so I can only imagine what it looks like animated on the big screen.  I haven't heard too much else about the fights because I'm a girl and an IchiRuki shipper and my antennae have been pointing, all shivery, at OMG, HE STROKED HER HAIR chatter for a while. But at some point when I mentioned to Syn that I couldn't see Ichigo stroking the hair of his other precious nakama--Chad, for example--it occurred to me that I really did want to see something like that, and my shounen ai and yaoi fangirl who had been sleeping for too long, awoke with the tiniest little naked plot bunny fetus squirming in my palm.

I want to write RenIshi again. Doesn't Renji have the most STROKABLE HAIR? Hee.

Yeah, I've had a real writing drought there. Sorry guys. I'll make it up to you when my RL gets stable again. In the meantime, FADE TO BLACK FUN!

Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] melodymix who found the scans. There's a movie pamphlet that came out with the premiere of Fade to Black in Japan yesterday and a new Kubo drawing. It's very beautiful--looks like watercolor. Also in the pamphlet is a scene of an IchiRuki hug (we didn't know about this--all we'd gotten from the advance premiere spoiler was tell of a face-cupping). [livejournal.com profile] syneiam is really batting close to 1000. She called a hug for this movie. Anyway, it's quite tender, Ichigo looks protective and relieved. I guess this was the part where all the girls in those Japanese commercials for the movie said they started to cry. Morita said bring lots of towels. I guess this Bleach movie is a five-hanky chick flick after all the fights are done!

Pretty Pix from FTB Pamphlet )

Spacey was in Shibuya the other day and said there were giant IchiRuki posters in the station. He's going to try to get some photos of them. IchiRuki madness is at full BLAST in Japan. More interviews and tidbits to come.

ETA from [livejournal.com profile] sketchbaka

Kubo-sensei's comment on pamphlet:

The third movie is becoming a special work for BLEACH. It's different with the usual element of many movies, it's a story close to and in which the simple Bleach's origin is drawn. I'm hoping for this story to remain, even just a little, in the hearts of a lot of people.

Also mentioned in pamphlet:

In the script this time, Ichigo as main protagonist facing the heroine Rukia directly. Wondering how to rebirth the story about these two's bond; the director and producer started the story from presenting the plot of Kubo-sensei's original manga.

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_debbiechan_/

Translation by the wonderful [livejournal.com profile] melodymix . Highlights are that Shishou decided to jump whole hog into the movie after finding out that it was going to have a "back to the beginning" theme and that Ichigo and Rukia were going to be the main characters, he defines the IchiRuki relationship as more than nakama but not lovers and utterly unique, and he says this movie is the closest to the original work.

here it is! ) oh, and http://www.debbiechan.com/ is updated with most of the art entries of the previous contest on board.
[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_debbiechan_/
Thank you to [livejournal.com profile] sketchbaka

Highlights are that Rukia's seiyuu didn't know that Ichigo's feelings for Rukia ran so deep. Ichigo's seiyuu tells us to watch for Kenpachi, Renji and Byakuya in the move and we're sure to get a laugh! Morita also says he significantly changed the way he voices Ichigo for this movie and describes the process. Kubo-sensei is described as being present for the two days of recording.

[livejournal.com profile] melodymix has already begun translating the Kubo interview from the movie booklet. Here's a tidbit. I'll point you to more as it progresses:

Kubo: From the 2nd movie the subtitle was brought up by me. From the time when I first heard that the memory of Rukia will be disappearing inside everyone an image came into my mind that Rukia’s memory of Ichigo and the gotei 13 will be disappearing. From there the meaning of “Disappearing into black” became the subtitle “Fade to black”.

After coming up with the English subtitle "Fade to Black” they asked me to come up with the Japanese subtitle (laughs) So after carefully digesting the scenario I searched for some scenes that can be the key word or words that I can use, and found that in the plot, someone calling out someone’s name, especially in this story where Ichigo calling out Rukia’s name was a strong expression that even though no one else remembers you I do, and I found out it had an important meaning behind it. So that’s how I came up with the subtitle “Calling Out Your name”

[livejournal.com profile] sketchbaka is translating the Fumi and Morita interview. Here's a tidbit! Muchas Gracias Sketchy!

Is Ichigo and Rukia's confrontation also one of important points?

Oririn
It was their first confrontation but this time Rukia herself doesn't have any memories so I just go along with it without thinking about anything.

Morita
It was difficult for me. Ichigo could never attack Rukia, you know. So it's really hard to fight. It must be difficult for Ichigo to see the changed form of Rukia.

Any good memories during the recording?

Oririn
At the scene when Ichigo and Rukia's memories are returning, I was told to insert an ad-lip of a warm word that symbolize Rukia. But because Rukia used to say insults, I couldn't come up with anything (laugh).

Morita
That time everyone tried very hard to figure it out but after all we could only came out with "Tawake/Idiot." It was troublesome. "I don't remember ever being told warm words!" then everyone burst into laughter.

Oririn
All the casts and staffs were laughing hard, come to think about it, Kubo-sensei who came was laughing as well. By seeing those smiling faces, I really can feel their trust on us. It really leaves a good impression.

Morita
Even though he was busy, he kept looking after us for the whole 2 days of recording. His appearance gave strength and safe feelings to our hearts.

Last, do you have any message to fans?

Oririn
This time is something like, "This feeling that couldn't be described by words." (laugh) What the characters are holding in their heart, couldn't be expressed by single word, doesn't have shape and couldn't be seen but they're actually connected from the core.... I strongly thought that rather than seeing, I wish everyone could feel that particular parts.

Morita
For me, I hope for fans to think together about the importance of calling out someone's "Name". This time, Ichigo is calling out Rukia's, Renji's, Byakuya's and other people's name but no one calls out Ichigo's name. Even though you're calling out no one answer, now I know how sad it is having no one to call your name. Name isn't only meant to call but also to be called, this kind of thing. I wish for everyone to see the movie and feel how important this thing is. And after finish watching the movie, I wish everyone will call out the name of the person you love.

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_debbiechan_/

Latest CM for the Bleach movie Fade to Black: Calling Out Your Name that features the new theme music by Porno Graffiti

Ichigo: Don't go Rukia!!
Ichigo: I don't care if you don't remember me but I'll protect you

And here's the song for a listen. I really love this band---I hadn't heard of them until now but I'm not a J-pop follower. They're supposedly huge, and peeps in Japan are yipping over their participation in the movie.  I love this particular song and the IchiRuki fandom is spazzing over the shippy lyrics--the word "love" comes up a few times, the kanji for "attached-love" or what Mel translates as "relationship" and the whole thing sounds like a confession from Ichigo to Rukia.
